DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS

Our national philanthropy is Domestic Violence Awareness (DVA). Sigma Alpha Zeta adopted DVA in 2000 and has since then been committed to speaking, teaching, and working against the various forms of domestic violence.

DV Statistics

These are some of the statistics our members are passionately working against:

1

1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of [some form of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime.

1

1 in 15 children are exposed to intimate partner violence each year, and 90% of these children are eyewitnesses to this violence.

1 %

The 2015 U.S. Transgender Survey found that 47% of transgender people are sexually assaulted at some point in their lifetime.

THE WORK WE DO

Hosting large scale events to raise money.

Spreading awareness by tabling weekly throughout DVA month (October).

Educating members and community by hosting various events.

DVA WEEK

DVA week takes place on the third week of October on our various campuses. You will see our chapters hosting a series of different events such as Run for Love at Gamma Chapter, Take Back the Night at Alpha Chapter, Symbols of Love at Delta Chapter, Love Shouldn’t Hurt March at Eta Chapter. All the proceeds from these events go towards prospective local shelters within California.

If you wish to participate in any of our philanthropy events, you can contact our nearest chapter to you.
